This is because the owners at our current transmitter site have withdrawn their agreement for us to house our transmission equipment there with immediate effect.

We have attempted to reach an agreement to have our equipment turned on whilst we arrange a move, but this has been refused. We now need to move this equipment to a new, suitable site and have it approved by the broadcast regulator Ofcom.

We do not know how long it will take to resume FM broadcasts at this time but please rest assured that we are working as hard as possible to restore full FM services as soon as is possible.

Many of our programmes continue to broadcast online during this time, and therefore it is very much business as usual at NE1fm. Please note however that there may be minor disruptions to our schedule, as some presenters will be using the downtime to take a short break.

We’re very sorry for any inconvenience to your listening, and we hope to be back as soon as possible. As soon as any more updates are available, we will be letting you know here, as well as via our Twitter feed at @NE1fmofficial.

The recording will feature a question and answer session with a panel including representatives from local financial advice and support organisations, taking place at 1-3 City Road from 6 til 8:30 PM.

Listeners and members of the general public are invited to attend to present their questions to the panel. The event is free of charge, and the completed recording will air on NE1fm 102.5 on Friday May 25th at 2PM, online via this website.

No Excuse – “How to Survive a Financial Crisis”

This Sunday on NE1 For Rock I will be joined by Lee Lamb, the drummer with metal band Vendetta. We’ll be playing new music from the band, as well as discussing their new album World Under Fire.

There’ll also be new music from bands including Chaos Asylum, The Worshyp, Hanging Doll, Shinedown and 4Bitten – If we can fit it all in, that is!

I’ll also be starting a blog right here on the NE1fm website soon, focusing on a different local rock or metal band each week, with information on the band and a local gig guide.

You can listen to NE1 For Rock on 102.5 FM in the Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead area, as well as online via this website, every Sunday at 10AM.

The show featured a variety of new music and older classics, as well as tracks from around Europe little-exposed to British audiences. There was also, of course, plenty of cheese – Or, as I would say, bangin’ choons!

There was also the first entry in to our look back at great past performances from the Eurovision Song Contest, the vocally-brilliant “Hasheket Shenish’ar” by Shiri Maimon at the 2005 final in Kiev.

We also had time to throw a few requests in, including “Club Tropicana” by Wham! and “Manic Monday” by The Bangles. Every Monday you’ll be able to get your requests on-air, too, by tweeting me during the show or by dropping a message to The Hedley Show on Facebook.

The Hedley Show will be broadcast every Monday at 5PM, starting on April 2nd, and couples music from genres including pop, indie and dance with cheese, a unique and random brand of humour, and listener interaction.

Presented by Mr. Hedley, the show was first broadcast on NE1fm as part of the station’s launch schedule in June 2007, first on Sunday afternoons and then on Saturday evenings, the latter edition acting as a pre-cursor to the long-running Kev and Nixxi.

Listeners can expect a spontaneous, loud and occasionally ‘silly’ show each week, described by the presenter as designed to “entertain, and offer an alternative to run-of-the-mill drive time broadcasts and formulaic commercial radio presentation”.

Additionally, The Hedley Show is the second show to start a site blog at NE1fm.net, which can be found here and will include updates on the show, along with show playlists and other features of interest to listeners.

On Friday 20th April, Spanish Stereo starts a run as a monthly broadcast for the Spanish community of Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead, presented by Angelica Chara, Beatriz Garcia and Roy Laboriel.

Spanish Stereo will be live on the third Friday of every month, with the other Fridays consisting of existing shows Everyone’s Tomorrow Today, North East Writers and No Excuse.

Both The Hedley Show and Spanish Stereo will be available on 102.5 FM across the local area, as well as online via this website. Additionally, The Hedley Show is available on both Facebook and Twitter.

Flip & Fill will be headlining the show, with support and MCs to be announced in the build-up to the event. There’ll also be special club decor, lasers, cannons, confetti bombs, dancers and lots, lots more.

Local DJ Semtex will be driving the evening along with the headline DJs, and a Semtex guest mix will be featuring on this Friday’s NE1fm Dance Anthems from 8PM to look forward to the event.

The Hedley Show’s blog is the second to feature on the new NE1fm.net website, following the launch of the Indie Dependent blog in February.

The changes are the biggest to our already diverse schedule in almost two months, and include broadcasts that have aired occasionally as part of our open access programming in recent weeks.

Mondays: The Golden Folk and Acoustic Show will be presented weekly by Kyle Thompson

The new shows are The Golden Folk and Acoustic Show, Vintage Swing Show, Glory Days, Sarah Docherty and Becky Sharp and Drivetime, and all five will be airing weekly following their debut broadcast.

The first to go live will be The Golden Folk and Acoustic Show, hosted by Kyle Thompson (pictured right) on Monday at 2PM and featuring folk music sourced both locally and internationally.

Vintage Swing Show will also air on Mondays, at 11PM, and is focused on the swing, jazz and blues of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, presented and musically curated by Richard Owen.

The Tuesday schedule sees two new additions, with Andrea Ward’s Glory Days featuring a selection of 80s and 90s music at 5PM, followed by Sarah Doherty and Becky Sharp‘s parenting-focused broadcast that aims to warmly cover topics ranging from pregnancy to dating.

On Friday, from 4 til 6PM, Pat Patterson will debut Drivetime, a two-hour selection of popular music, news and travel updates, and interviews with guests to help you through the drive home for the weekend.

We are also able to announce that The Hedley Show is returning to NE1fm 102.5 after a four-year absence the following week on Monday April 2nd at 5PM, while a Spanish language programme is also set to debut during the same month.
