Indie Dependent is an indie music focused show, presented by Edd Shanks, James Noton and Jim Hoey on NE1fm 102.5 every Thursday from 7 til 9PM.
A two-hour selection of purely indie music, Indie Dependent features both the best-known artists in the genre and the team’s unearthed gems, as well as occasional new music from local bands.
Among the artists featured on the show since its launch are Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Little Comets, Bombay Bicycle Club, Wolf Gang, Two Door Cinema Club, Cage The Elephant, Villeins, I Am Arrows and The Courteeners, although lots more feature on a regular basis.
Indie Dependent also has regular on-air features, most notably One Sham Band, a competition ran in conjunction with The Tyne Bar with a £10 drinks voucher up for grabs each week. Other features include Tooniversity Challenge, and regular listener interaction and requests.
The quick wit and humour of Edward, James and Jim is another driving point of the show, making it an entertaining listen for both music and talk.
Indie Dependent has also worked to promote local events, including a Sunday evening showcase of local music talent in 2011.
The show was broadcast for the first time in May 2011 by Edd and James, with Jim joining the the broadcast team permanently in November.
